V&A Museum, London

Kite Glass supplied the roof glazing in its entirety for the refurbishment of The Porter Gallery at the prestigious Victoria & Albert (most commonly known as the V&A) Museum. The V&A Museum in the Brompton district of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London is the world’s largest museum of applied and decorative arts and design.

The Porter Gallery is situated next to the V&A’s Grand Entrance and houses temporary displays featuring contemporary art and design. Kite Glass supplied 500m2 of 9.5mm Heat Strengthened Toughened Laminated Glass with a bespoke white interlayer for the glass roof of the Porter Gallery.

Kite Glass laminated safety glass was manufactured using heat strengthened glass chosen for its integrity when broken in an overhead application. The bespoke white interlayer had to meet specific criteria to achieve the desired light transmission.

The roof floods light into the gallery floor space below creating inspiring and optimal lighting conditions to enjoy the latest and best in contemporary art and design.

Long seen as the place to be for all generations of art enthusiasts, the V&A museum was founded in 1852 and named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The V&A covers 12.5 acres and 145 galleries. Its collection spans 5,000 years of art, from ancient times to the present day.
