100 Liverpool Street

100 Liverpool Street was originally designed by Arup and built in 1988. Hopkins Architects re-designed 100 Liverpool Street and 8-12 Broadgate to form one stunning development, adjacent to Liverpool Street Station, London’s new Crossrail and Elizabeth Line transport hubs. The re-development, being completed in 2020, will add three new floors to the structure along with a new atrium¸ retail units, restaurants, cafés and bars.

The re-designed building has been constructed to achieve the BREEAM Excellent rating for sustainability and the WELL Gold certification for wellbeing.

Kite Glass was awarded the contract to provide the Low Iron glass for the internal glazed staircase that rises six floors from the ground floor.

Kite Glass supplied over one hundred 21.5mm Toughened and Heat Strengthened panels, both curved and flat, amounting to a total area of 236m². These comprised of 10mm Toughened and Heat Soaked Low Iron, and 10mm Heat Strengthened Low Iron. All panels were CNC finished and had a Chisel Edge.

Deliveries were carefully planned with the client, due to the lack of space on-site. All panels were loaded onto special frames for easy identification. Each panel had its own unique reference and plot number, to allow the fitters to understand the exact position of each feature staircase panel; this kept on-site handling to a bare minimum.
